Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a cholesterol-carrying particle in the blood. Your level is set largely by the genes you inherit, stays steady through adult life, and is not included in a standard lipid panel. Because it changes so little, most people need this test only once. No fasting required.
Singapore’s 2023 lipid management guidelines suggest measuring Lp(a) at least once, particularly where there is a family history of early heart disease or stroke. A raised level rarely causes symptoms on its own, so it is read alongside your lipid panel, blood pressure and family history to give your doctor a fuller picture of your cardiovascular risk.
This add-on is best booked alongside a screening package, so your results are looked at together. Not sure if it’s already included in your package of choice? Check with us on the day of your appointment, or WhatsApp us to enquire now.
