A little preparation makes your results more reliable and your visit quicker. Here is everything you need to know before you come in, what to eat, what to bring, and what to tell us on the day.
Set aside about 30 to 45 minutes for your visit.
None of this is complicated. Most of it is about not accidentally skewing a result that you have come in to measure.
Keep drinking water as you normally would, right up to your appointment. Hydrated veins make the blood draw faster and gentler.
Give alcohol a miss for 24 hours before your blood test. It temporarily shifts liver and triglyceride readings.
Very fatty or fried meals and hard workouts can move your results for a day or two. Eat and move as you usually do.
Carry on with your prescribed medicines unless we have told you otherwise. Stop vitamins and supplements 5 to 7 days before, especially if your package checks nutritional levels.
A fever, an infection or a heavy cold changes your inflammatory markers. Message us and we will move your slot.
If your package includes urine or stool tests, collect the bottles beforehand and bring the samples with you.
Stop your vitamins and supplements now, 5 to 7 days ahead, and keep taking your prescribed medicines as usual.
Pick up your sample bottles from the clinic if your package includes urine or stool tests. Booking a home-based collection? Ask us at least a week ahead and we can post the bottles to you. If you are due for your period, aim for a date 10 to 14 days after it starts.
Go easy on alcohol, very fatty meals and heavy exercise, which can move your liver and muscle readings for a day or two. Otherwise eat as you normally would, a screening should measure your usual state, not a special one. Get a decent night's sleep.
Drink water before you come, even if you're fasting. Staying hydrated is important for blood sample collection.
Wear something loose with sleeves that roll up easily. Bring your NRIC or passport, your samples, and any past reports or scans for us to compare your results to. Take your usual medications unless we have told you otherwise.
Once your appointment is booked, we send you a short health questionnaire by WhatsApp or email. It takes about five minutes and it is the part of your visit that shapes everything else, because your history tells our doctor which results matter most for you.
Please send it back at least a day before you come in. That means less form-filling at the counter. If you would rather fill it up at our clinic, do arrive about 10 minutes early and our team will help you through it.
Did not receive the form? WhatsApp us and we will resend the link.
For our five general screening packages, no. The lab removed that requirement, so there is one less reason to put off getting screened. Just let us know at registration that you have eaten.
A few specific tests still need an empty stomach. If any of these are part of your screening, we will tell you when you book, and you can always WhatsApp us to check.
For registration, and for the report to be issued in the right name.
Urine and stool samples, collected as close to your appointment as possible.
Names and doses, or simply the boxes. List your supplements too, along with the date you stopped them.
Anything you would like the doctor to compare against. Soft copies are fine.
Two pieces, with sleeves that roll above the elbow. Spectacles if you wear them.
Our team can collect your blood samples at your home anywhere in Singapore, subject to availability. An additional phlebotomy fee applies depending on where you are, message us and we will confirm the exact amount. The resting ECG is still done in-clinic, and a few focused screens are in-clinic only.
Arrange home collectionIf your package includes a urine or stool test, you collect the sample yourself and bring it in. Pick up the bottles from the clinic beforehand, or ask us to post them to you if you are booking a home-based screening at least a week ahead. Each bottle is labelled, so write your name and the date on it before you start.
We ask for a mid-stream sample from you. Ensure that it is not the first urine sample of the day after waking up.
The bottle has a small spoon built into the cap. You need far less than most people expect, about the size of a pea.
We'll usually label the bottles before handing it to you. Just in case it's not, write your full name, NRIC and the date of collection on the bottles before you collect the samples. Unlabelled samples cannot be processed.
Seal the bottle in the ziploc bag provided and keep it in a cool, dry place. Never freeze it, and never leave it in a warm car.
Hand the sample to our staff during your appointment. Collect it as close to your visit as you can, ideally that same morning.
Not sure about any of this, or think you may have collected it wrongly? WhatsApp us, we would rather give you a fresh bottle than run a sample we cannot trust.
None of these stop you from being screened. They simply change how we read your results, so tell our team at registration.
You should be fine to proceed for most of our packages. However, you may need to postpone your urine sample collection to at least 7 days after your period ends.
Tell us before anything is done. Some tests and scans are deferred during pregnancy, and reference ranges shift for several others.
Keep taking them, and let our nurse know so she can hold the site a little longer after the draw to prevent bruising.
Say so. We will let you lay down for the blood sample collection and use a smaller needle. It is a very common thing to dislike and there is no need to tough it out and risk fainting.
A fever, flu or infection within the past two weeks can lift inflammatory and white blood cell readings. Let us know so we can time your screening better.
Not a problem for our packages. However, if you’ve fasted more than 10-12 hours, results may not be as accurate due to over-fasting.
Yes, and we would encourage it. Plain water is fine even when you are fasting. Being well hydrated plumps up your veins and makes the blood draw quicker and more comfortable.
If your screening does not require fasting, a normal cup of coffee or tea is fine. If you are fasting for a test such as the Metabolic Screen or an abdominal ultrasound, stick to plain water only, coffee, tea, juice, milk and soft drinks all break a fast, including the black and unsweetened versions.
Keep taking your prescribed medications, including those for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and blood thinning, unless our doctor has specifically told you otherwise. Never stop a prescription on your own before a screening.
Supplements are different. Stop vitamins, minerals, fish oil and other health supplements at least 5 to 7 days before your appointment, especially if your package includes nutritional tests such as vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, folate or omega fatty acids. Taking them right up to the blood draw measures the supplement rather than your own levels, which makes the result difficult to act on.
Bring the list or the boxes along, and tell us when you stopped, so we can note it against your results.
You can, and many people do. However, you may need to postpone your urine sample collection to at least 7 days after your period ends.
Let us reschedule. An infection, a fever or even a bad cold can lift your inflammatory and white-cell readings for a week or two, which makes the report harder to read. Message us and we will move your slot, there is no charge for rescheduling.
Something comfortable and two-piece, with sleeves that push up above the elbow easily. If you are having an ECG or an ultrasound, a top that is easy to lift or remove saves time. Bring your spectacles if you wear them, and leave heavy jewellery at home.
Collect the bottles from the clinic beforehand, or on the day of your appointment if that is easier. Each bottle comes labelled with instructions. Collect the samples as close to your appointment as you can, keep them cool, and hand them to our team when you arrive.
For home-based screenings booked at least a week ahead, we can post the bottles to you and collect the samples at your appointment.
About 30 to 45 minutes, covering your height, weight and blood pressure, the blood draw and a resting ECG where included. On busy mornings there may be some waiting, and we appreciate your patience.
Your NRIC or passport, your sample bottles if your package includes them, a list of your current medications, and any past screening reports or imaging you would like the doctor to compare against. Soft copies on your phone are perfectly fine.
Results may take 5-7 working days. Your medical report is vetted by the doctor and sets out your results alongside the next steps for anything that needs attention. We will email it to you when it is ready. If anything needs urgent follow-up, we will call you sooner.
Message us before your appointment and we will tell you exactly what your package needs. It takes a minute and saves a second trip.
